We embarked on an intentional journey to own less stuff.Īs a result, we discovered more money, more time, more energy, more freedom, less stress, and more opportunity to pursue our greatest passions: faith, family, friends. My family and I began donating, recycling, and removing our unnecessary personal possessions. My belongings were not adding value to my life. My possessions piled up in the driveway… my son in the backyard… my day slipping away… I immediately recognized something needed to change. I struck up a regular conversation with my neighbor who commented, “Maybe you don’t need to own all this stuff.” My story begins in suburban Vermont while I was cleaning the garage, my wife was cleaning the bathrooms and my 5-year old son was playing alone in the backyard. If I had to sum up my motivational incentive with one word, it would be: freedom. ![]() I’m hoping to have enough passive income for complete FI sooner rather than later. We wouldn’t have been able to do that if it weren’t for minimalism. It’s tight, but doable, and we did it for 2 years while DH went back to school. We’ve reduced our living expenses down enough so we can live on one income. It also included purging bad habits once and for all. This included ending relationships that weren’t as meaningful to me. Then, I used the same concepts applied to purging physical items to do a deep level of emotional purging. ![]() I finally had the time and energy to do it. This is when I got back into hiking and art. Less cleaning, less organizing, more time to do what I love. We moved every 2-3 years for a 8 year period and it was getting exhausting lugging all the same unpacked boxes around the country. ![]()
